What to wear for your next Romantic Rail Travel

Before travelling by train to Southern Italy, our stylist told us that it’s essential to dress comfortably yet stylishly. Now as we returned, considering both the practicalities of the journey and the warm Mediterranean climate awaiting us, we want to share with you a few simple tips on what to wear for your next romantic rail travel. Here are some tips on what to wear:

Comfortable Clothing

Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen to stay cool and comfortable during the journey. Loose-fitting tops, shirts, or blouses paired with relaxed trousers or skirts are ideal for long hours of sitting.

Layering

Even though Southern Italy is known for its warmth, train interiors can sometimes be cool due to air conditioning. Layering is key to staying comfortable throughout the journey. Bring a lightweight cardigan, shawl, or jacket that you can easily put on or take off as needed.

Walking shoes

Choose comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking, as you may need to navigate train stations and platforms. Sneakers, loafers, or sandals with good arch support are excellent choices. Avoid heels or overly flimsy footwear, as they may not be suitable for walking long distances.

Accessories

Accessorize with a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a lightweight scarf to shield yourself from the sun during platform waits or outdoor explorations. A crossbody bag or backpack is practical for carrying essentials such as tickets, snacks, water, and personal items.

Sun Protection

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen before your journey and carry a small bottle with you for reapplication during stops or outdoor excursions. A portable fan or handheld fan can also provide relief from the heat during particularly warm days.

Modest Attire

While Southern Italy is generally relaxed in terms of dress code, particularly when exploring tourist areas, it’s respectful to dress modestly when visiting churches, historical sites, or local communities. Pack a lightweight shawl or scarf to cover your shoulders if needed.

Versatile Outfits

Choose clothing items that can easily transition from day to evening. A simple dress or shirt paired with trousers can be dressed up with accessories for dinner at a local trattoria or an evening stroll along the waterfront.

Weather Considerations

Check the weather forecast for your destination and pack accordingly. While Southern Italy is known for its sunny weather, occasional rain showers or cooler evenings may occur, especially in the spring or autumn months.

Overall, prioritise comfort, versatility and weather-appropriate attire when selecting your travel wardrobe for a journey to Southern Italy by train. With the right clothing choices, you’ll be ready to embrace the adventure and enjoy every moment of your trip through this captivating region.
