Feeling Good and Happy: Your Self-perception Reshapes a Happier 2025

Feeling Good and Happy starts with Your Self-perception. What is the story you tell yourself about yourself when no one else is listening? Dr Marina Nani looks into the Self-Perception shift that will help you reshape a happier 2025!

As we step into 2025, I can’t help but think about how much our happiness depends on one simple thing: how we see ourselves. I’ve spent years editing stories about self-awareness and success, but it wasn’t until I hit a rough patch in my own life that I truly understood the power of self-perception.

Self-Perception Matters

For me, it happened during a time when everything felt overwhelming—work, family, the endless expectations. I remember taking a walk one morning and suddenly everything went black and I collapsed in front of my house. That’s when it hit me: I had been so caught up in trying to meet external demands that I’d completely lost touch with what really matters. Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing: how we see ourselves shapes every aspect of our lives. Research backs this up. A 2023 study found that people who focus on their strengths and positive qualities are not only happier but also more resilient during tough times.

But this isn’t just about statistics. It’s about the little moments we experience every day—the quiet self-criticisms, the comparisons to others, the feeling that we’re not enough. Those thoughts don’t just pass through us; they stick, shaping how we approach everything from relationships to career decisions.

Self-perception Shift

For me, the shift came when I started paying attention to the stories I was telling myself. Every time I thought, “I can’t do this” or “I’m not good enough,” I asked myself, “Is that really true?” More often than not, it wasn’t. I realized I had the power to rewrite those stories—and it changed everything.

Now, don’t get me wrong. This didn’t happen overnight and it wasn’t easy. But little by little, I started focusing on the parts of myself I’d been neglecting: my creativity, my humor, my ability to connect with others. That’s when I started to feel like myself again.

Feeling Good and Happy with Yourself

If you’re feeling disconnected or stuck as you enter this new year, you’re not alone. But you can begin to shift your perspective. Here are a few things that helped me:

Get honest about your inner dialogue

Start paying attention to how you talk to yourself. If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself. Replace harsh critiques with words of encouragement—you’d be amazed at how much lighter you’ll feel.

Focus on what you love about yourself

This might feel awkward at first, but try listing three things you genuinely like about yourself. They don’t have to be big—maybe it’s your sense of humor or the way you make a killer cup of coffee. Start small and build from there.

Reconnect with what brings you joy

Remember those things you used to love doing before life got so busy? Whether it’s painting, dancing, or just taking a quiet walk, carve out time for those moments. They’re not indulgences—they’re essential.

Practice self-compassion

Life is messy. You’re going to have bad days and that’s okay. Treat yourself with kindness when things don’t go as planned. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about feeling good and happy every day.

Surround Yourself with Positive Energy

This doesn’t mean cutting off everyone who’s having a bad day. It’s about finding your sweet spot, connecting people who uplift you, who remind you of your worth and who encourage you to be your best self.

2025- A Happier Year

Here’s what I’ve learned: reconnecting with your essence isn’t about transforming into someone new. It’s about uncovering the incredible person you already are. It’s about seeing yourself clearly—not through the lens of past mistakes or societal pressures, but through the truth of your strengths, positive vibes and potential.

As we move into 2025, I hope you’ll take this as a gentle nudge to look inward, to reflect on the stories you’re telling yourself about yourself, when no one else is listening and to start rewriting them if they no longer serve you.

Happiness isn’t something you chase or a destination, but the feeling that you are a destination worth reaching. It’s something you cultivate within yourself, one step, one thought, one small act of self- compassion at a time. Let this be the year of receiving, when you re-imagine who you are. Trust me—it’s worth it.
