Cultural Crossroads: A Brooklynite’s Solo Path to Beijing, PR China

In my debut novel, “Bedstuy to Beijing:  Unapologetically Black in China, written and published in November, 2018 I invite readers on a captivating odyssey—a personal, uncharted voyage from the vibrant streets of Bedstuy, Brooklyn, to the historic and bustling avenues of Beijing. Unfamiliar Streets, Familiar Energies

My initial steps through Beijing’s awe-inspiring yet overwhelming thoroughfares were moments of raw emotion and palpable energy. The city, alive and pulsating with life, was a stark contrast to my familiar corners of Bedstuy. Yet, in this vast sea of unknown faces and sounds, I found a peculiar sense of belonging. This juxtaposition laid the foundational stone for my odyssey of personal growth and cultural exchange.

Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges

The challenge of overcoming language barriers morphed from daunting to exhilarating. Each stuttered conversation, each mispronounced word, was a step toward a profound understanding and appreciation of the world around me.
