Queen Elizabeth II’s Memorial To Be Revealed Next to Buckingham Palace in 2026

As we mark two years since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we reflect on Her Majesty remarkable contribution to humanity. A Memorial is to be revealed next to Buckingham Palace on the Centenary of the Late Queen's Birth in 2026.

As we mark two years since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we reflect on a day that touched the hearts of millions around the world. Her death signalled the end of an extraordinary era of service and dedication to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

Serving for seven decades and 214 days on the throne, Ker Majesty Elisabeth II was a constant and reassuring presence, guiding the nation through times of both triumph and hardship. Now, two years on, we come together not only to commemorate her loss but to celebrate her legacy—a legacy that endures through the institutions she strengthened, the values she upheld and the countless lives she impacted.

a dedicated committee was formed by both the government and the Royal Household to determine how best to honour her legacy. Among their plans is a permanent memorial, likely a statue or monument, though the final design is yet to be decided.

The memorial is expected to be located in a section of St James’s Park, near the Marlborough Gate leading to The Mall, and close to the small blue bridge over the park’s central pond. This area, rich in royal history, is near the Queen Victoria Memorial, which stands prominently in front of Buckingham Palace. It’s also close to the bronze statues of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the parents of the late Queen, which already mark the landscape around The Mall. This road, leading directly to Buckingham Palace, has long been the site of many royal ceremonies, from jubilees to state visits.

In addition to the memorial, a broader commemorative initiative is under consideration, potentially focusing on community services or facilities. Drawing from history, similar previous initiative saw the creation of over 500 playing fields across the country following King George VI death in 1952.

The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Committee, led by Lord Janvrin, the Queen’s former private secretary, will present their recommendations to both His Majesty King Charles III and the prime minister in the coming months.

The light Queen Elizabeth II kindled in the hearts of millions still shines brightly, a beacon of grace, duty and quiet strength. Even as the years pass, that light remains undimmed, a powerful inspiration through the uncertainties of modern life. Her unwavering devotion to her people, her country and the world is a legacy few could hope to match.

The memorials and tributes we build in her name—though grand in stature—are but small reflections of the immense contribution she made to humanity. They serve as reminders of the warmth and hope she instilled in us, a permanent mark of a life lived in service to others. In honouring her, we also honour the values she championed, keeping her spirit alive for generations to come.
