Are You Trapped in Negative Energy? Navigating the Web of Mental Health

The human brain is a complex, fascinating entity. It can be a forge of brilliance, a hub of creativity, and a factory of dreams. Yet, it can also be a crucible of despair, a whirlpool of sadness, and a magnet for negative energy. All too often, we find ourselves trapped in this negative energy, enslaved by pessimism, and forever bound to the echoes of our past troubles and our habitat negative energy.

The trap of negative energy is not just a philosophical notion, but a phenomenon deeply rooted in neuroscience and psychology. The National Science Foundation has estimated that the average person has in excess of 60,000 thoughts per day. Shockingly, 80% of these thoughts are negative, and 95% are exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before. This overwhelming predominance of negative and repetitive thinking is known as ‘negativity bias’—a natural inclination to focus heavily on negative experiences and information.

This negativity bias is a consequence of our evolutionary history. Our ancestors had to be constantly alert to potential dangers for survival, leading to a brain that’s more attuned to negativity. Yet, in our modern, relatively safe world, this bias often serves to unnecessarily amplify our anxieties and fears.

Negativity does not just loom in our thoughts but also profoundly influences our brain’s physiology. When negative thoughts persist, the amygdala—the part of the brain involved in fear and anxiety responses—becomes hyperactive, while other regions responsible for cognition and emotional regulation like the prefrontal cortex start to function less efficiently. The interplay between these brain regions results in a cascade of stress hormones, primarily cortisol, that further exacerbate our negative emotional state.

Scientifically termed ‘negative polarity,’ this state of being permanently connected to bad energies can lead to a vicious cycle. It’s as if your brain becomes tuned to a specific frequency of negativity, constantly seeking and amplifying negative experiences. This phenomenon explains why some of us often find ourselves irresistibly drawn to unhappiness, sadness, and troubles, despite our best efforts to resist.

It’s important to remember, however, that you are not doomed to this fate. While your brain may be wired to focus on the negative, they are also remarkably plastic—capable of restructuring and adapting to new ways of thinking. This is where the concept of cognitive reframing or cognitive restructuring comes in. In essence, it’s the process of identifying and challenging our negative beliefs and replacing them with positive ones.

According to a study published in the Journal of Positive Psychology, individuals who practiced cognitive reframing experienced a significant decrease in negative emotions and an increase in positive emotions over time. This shift in emotional state, in turn, promoted greater psychological resilience and overall well-being.

Can you break free from this magnetic field of negativity and start the process of cognitive reframing?

The first step is awareness. Becoming conscious of your negative thought patterns is crucial. It may be helpful to keep a thought diary, a journal where you jot down what you are thinking when you feel upset or distressed. Over time, patterns will emerge, and you’ll identify negative thoughts that you weren’t even aware of.

Next is challenging these thoughts. Are they logical? Are they based on facts or just assumptions? Are there other, more positive ways to view the situation? By questioning our negative thoughts, we can begin to shift our perspective.

Lastly, replace the negativity with positivity. This step doesn’t imply ignoring problems or pretending everything is perfect. Instead, it means finding a more balanced, realistic view. It’s about acknowledging the negative but not allowing it to overshadow the positive.

Trapped in negative energy, we may feel like we’re drowning in an ocean of despair, forever treading water with no land in sight. Yet, it’s important to remember that we are not the ocean; we are the navigators. We may not control the stormy waters or the harsh winds, but we do control our direction. We have the power to change our course, to steer away from the negative and towards the positive. This is the essence of cognitive reframing.

Mindfulness meditation is another powerful tool that can help free us from the trap of negative energy. It involves focusing our attention on the present moment and accepting it without judgment. A meta-analysis of 209 studies involving over 12,000 participants, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, concluded that mindfulness meditation significantly reduces negative psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression.

Furthermore, cultivating an attitude of gratitude can also work wonders in combating negative energy. A study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that individuals who wrote about things they were grateful for were more optimistic and felt better about their lives. Gratitude shifts our focus from what’s wrong with our lives to what’s right, breaking the cycle of negative thinking.

Building positive relationships is another crucial aspect of escaping negative energy. Humans are inherently social creatures, and the quality of our relationships has a profound impact on our mental well-being. According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, strong social support can help protect against mental health disorders, while social isolation and negative social interactions can increase the risk.

While it may seem daunting, the road from negativity to positivity is navigable. The journey may be long, and the terrain may be challenging, but every step, however small, brings us closer to a brighter, more positive future. Each thought reframed, each moment mindfully experienced, each gratitude expressed, and each positive interaction nurtures the seeds of optimism within us.

So, if you find yourself trapped in negative energy, remember: You have the power to break free. Your brain is not just a magnet for negativity but a canvas for change, a platform for positivity, and a beacon of resilience. With awareness, patience, and persistence, you can reshape your thought patterns, rewire your brain, and revolutionize your life.

As Victor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and renowned psychiatrist, once said, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” No matter how strong the pull of negative energy may be, you always have a choice. Choose to focus on the positive, and let it be the guiding light that leads you out of the darkness.

Energetic polarity- how far does it go?

Understanding yourself and how best you can manage the wonders of you as a human being as not merely physical, but also a distinct, energetic entity, takes courage. Energetic polarity is an ancient fascination, echoing through philosophies, spiritual traditions, and healing practices worldwide. It’s the belief that we’re made up of, surrounded by, and interconnected through energy. This energy doesn’t just resides in our physical bodies, but it also extends beyond them, forming what’s often referred to as the ‘energetic body’ or ‘aura’.

Now, think of this energetic body as a sponge that continually interacts with, absorbs, and radiates energy. The type of energy it soaks up depends on its polarity. Much like a magnet, the energetic body can have a negative or positive polarity. A positively polarized energetic body tends to attract positive energy, while a negatively polarized one tends to draw in negative energy.

But what does this mean in the context of our daily lives? How does this energetic interaction influence our emotions, our mindset, and our overall well-being?

Consider the scenario where you’re watching the news. Tragedies, conflicts, crises – the media landscape is often dominated by negative stories. If your energetic body is negatively polarized, it’s likely to absorb this negative energy, leading to feelings of sadness, fear, or despair. The negative news resonates with your energetic polarity, amplifying the negative emotional response.

Similarly, if you find yourself in a place of conflict—a heated argument at a restaurant, a tense meeting at work, or even a city experiencing social unrest—your negatively polarized energetic body can absorb the prevailing negative energy. You might find yourself feeling anxious, agitated, or drained, even if you’re not directly involved in the conflict.

On the flip side, if your energetic body was positively polarized, it would respond differently to these situations. The negative energy wouldn’t resonate with your energetic frequency, allowing it to pass by, much like water off a duck’s back. While you would still be aware of the negativity, it wouldn’t have the same emotional impact. You could watch the news or be in a place of conflict without feeling overwhelmed or drained.

But what if you find yourself permanently connected to negative energy?

Is it possible to change the polarity of your energetic body?

The answer is a resounding yes. While our energetic polarity can be influenced by numerous factors—our thoughts, emotions, relationships, environment—it’s not fixed. Through conscious effort and self-awareness, we can shift our energetic polarity from negative to positive.

Practices such as meditation, yoga, energy healing (like Reiki), and mindfulness can help cleanse the energetic body of negativity and promote a positive polarity. Surrounding yourself with positive influences—uplifting people, serene environments, joyful experiences—can also help shift your energetic polarity.

Ultimately, the energy we connect with and absorb is not just a matter of circumstance, but also a matter of choice. By understanding and harnessing the power of our energetic body, we can choose to align ourselves with positivity, transforming not just our energetic vibration, but also our lives.

Channelling and to absorbing negative energy through social conditioning

The energy we absorb doesn’t just influence our emotional state, it can also reveal deeply rooted psychological patterns and wounds. When we continually attract and react strongly to negative energy, it may be a sign of unprocessed traumas, emotional wounds, or limiting beliefs. These unresolved issues can act as energetic blockages, reinforcing the negative polarity of our energetic body.

Exhaustion, for instance, may not just be a result of physical fatigue or a busy schedule. It could be an indication of chronic emotional drain—continually absorbing and carrying negative energy can be extremely taxing on our energetic body. Anger, on the other hand, could be a response to feeling threatened or powerless, often rooted in past experiences of harm or injustice.

Feelings of helplessness could be a manifestation of limiting beliefs about our capacity to affect change, while jealousy might be reflective of deeper insecurities or fears of inadequacy. These emotions, while uncomfortable, can serve as important indicators, pointing us towards areas of our psyche that require healing and growth.

Beyond personal traumas and emotional wounds, societal and cultural conditioning can also contribute to energetic blockages. Cultural norms and expectations can subtly shape our beliefs, values, and behaviors, often leading to internal conflicts and repressed emotions.

Take, for instance, the widely propagated stereotype that ‘men shouldn’t be so emotional.’ A man raised with this belief might suppress his emotions to conform to this societal expectation. This emotional repression can create an energetic blockage, impeding the free flow of energy and potentially leading to feelings of frustration, isolation, or disconnect.

Similarly, the belief that ‘women shouldn’t go to space’ can limit a woman’s aspirations and self-perception, causing her to question her capabilities and worth. This internalized belief can manifest as a blockage in her energetic body, attracting and amplifying negative energy.

In both cases, social conditioning can lead to an imbalance in the energetic body, reinforcing a negative polarity. However, by recognizing and challenging these cultural programming and limiting beliefs, we can begin to dismantle these energetic blockages.

Psychotherapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy, can be an effective way to unearth and challenge limiting beliefs. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping, is another therapeutic tool that can help release emotional blockages and restore energetic balance.

Energy healing modalities like Reiki, Qi Gong, and Pranic Healing can also aid in clearing energetic blockages. These practices focus on rebalancing the energetic body, promoting emotional healing, and cultivating a positive energetic polarity.

Remember, our energetic bodies are not static. They are dynamic, ever-evolving systems that reflect our internal and external experiences. By acknowledging and addressing our traumas, emotional wounds, and limiting beliefs, we can transform our energetic polarity and, in turn, our lives.

It’s a journey of self-discovery and healing—a journey that empowers us to shift from being passive recipients of negative energy to active cultivators of positivity. As we navigate this journey, we not only change our energetic frequency but also our perception of ourselves and the world around us. We learn to see beyond the constraints of societal conditioning, embracing our authentic emotions, aspirations, and potential.

Breaking free from negative energy

Breaking free from negative energy and purifying our auras involves more than simply shifting our thoughts or emotions—it’s a holistic process that encompasses our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Detaching from energy that isn’t ours is a crucial step in this process. As energetic beings, we often unconsciously absorb energy from our environment, from the people around us, from the media we consume. Over time, this accumulated energy can cloud our aura, causing confusion, distress, and imbalance.

Visualize yourself not as a sponge soaking up external energies, but as water—fluid, dynamic, cleansing. Water doesn’t absorb impurities; it washes them away. Be like water: Don’t carry energy that isn’t yours; let it flow past you.

This fluidity is beautifully embodied in the metaphor of a river. A river doesn’t resist its course—it adapts, it flows, it moves. When it encounters a rock, it doesn’t stop or struggle; it simply navigates around it. It carries things along, but it doesn’t hold on to them. The river is a symbol of resilience, adaptability, and impermanence—a symbol that we can incorporate into our energetic practice.

Here’s a practical way to do this: Engage in a visualization meditation where you imagine yourself as a river. Visualize negative energy as leaves or twigs that fall into the river. Instead of getting stuck, they simply float on the surface, carried along by the current. They’re in the river, but they’re not part of it. This visualization can help you detach from energy that isn’t yours and reinforce the understanding that you’re not a receptacle for negative energy, but a conduit for energetic flow.

To further purify your aura and re-nourish your spirit, grounding techniques can be beneficial. Grounding refers to practices that connect us with the earth and the present moment, promoting energetic balance. This could involve spending time in nature, practicing mindful walking, or even visualizing roots extending from your feet into the earth, drawing up nourishing energy.

Self-care rituals—like taking a relaxing bath, practicing yoga, or enjoying a cup of herbal tea—can also help cleanse your energetic body and replenish your spirit. These rituals create a space for relaxation and rejuvenation, allowing you to disconnect from external energies and reconnect with yourself.

In addition, consider incorporating energy-clearing practices into your routine. These could include burning sage or Palo Santo, using sound healing with Tibetan singing bowls or tuning forks, or working with healing crystals. These practices can help clear your aura of negative energy, promoting a sense of peace and well-being.

Remember, purifying your aura and freeing yourself from negative energy is not a one-time event, but a continuous process—a journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth. As you navigate this journey, embrace the fluidity and resilience of a river. Let go of what isn’t serving you, flow with the current of life, and move towards a future radiant with positive energy.
